Passing the Baton

February 15, 2012

7:30 pm to 9:30 pm

The Bethany Trust have set up a service called Passing the Baton to help formerly homeless people settle into new tenancies and build relationships in their local area. Volunteers act as “buddies” by offering help with DIY or support to start hobbies or social activities or other ways of getting the person involved in their community.

The Trust want to start up a pilot project in our area and have approached St Augustine’s to see if we would be interested in participating. Volunteers get full training and support and a team of volunteers is assigned to each homeless person.

To find out more, without committing yourself to anything, why not come down to the church on February 15th at 7.30 pm when there will be a meeting to outline the project and give more detail on what is expected of volunteers.

Lent Groups

2 Lent groups will be running this year.

At lunch times every Wednesday there will be the opportunity for silent reflection and prayer in the side chapel from 12 noon – 12.30 pm.

There will also be a traditional Lent Study and Discussion group running in the halls on Wednesday evenings starting on 29th Feb at 7.30 pm. This will be led by Peter Cairns. It will run for 5 sessions but you don’t have to go to every one, utter words of wisdom or do anything outside your comfort zone.
