The gable end of the tenement building next door to the church partially collapsed on Monday evening, resulting in a pile of bricks and masonry coming through the roof of the Upper Room, due to be my office the following day! Often we have Vestry Meetings there on Mondays, and if we had been in session, some of the Vestry would have undoubtedly been killed or badly injured. In fact, Ghislaine, who had been clearing out some stuff in preparation for the office move had only been in the room working five minutes before the collapse. Thankfully, nobody was injured.
With the hall due to be demolished on Monday coming, it now is simply a nasty irritation, as it could be weeks before the new office is functional, although the gable end of the tenement should be rendered as safe after some external temporary repairs today.
Groups meeting in the church will from today be unaffected.
